Dies wird durch den k-Faktor erfasst, der ein Maß ist für die Spannweiteneffizienz eines Flügels. Dieser Faktor ist als Verhältnis zum theoretischen Optimum des elliptischen Flügels definiert, cW/cWe, (cW = Widerstandbeiwert) und somit für ebene Flügel immer grösser als 1, weil k = 1 den elliptischen Flügel kennzeichnet. Üblicherweise liegt der k-Faktor im Bereich von 1,15 bis 1,6 für ebene Flügel.

for example a rectangular or triangular shape, the induced drag rises. This is captured by the k-factor. This factor is defined as the ratio to the theoretical optimum of the elliptical wing, cDrag/cDrag-e, and thus for planar wings always greater than 1, because k = 1 denotes the elliptical wing. The k-factor for planar wings usually is in the range of 1.15 to 1,6.Interessant ist nun, dass nichtebene Flügel oder bestimmte Flügelkombinationen k-Werte deutlich unter 1 aufweisen und damit eine bessere Spannweiteneffizienz als der elliptische Flügel zeigen können.
